This series consists of records related to Edwin O. Guthman's work as Special Assistant for Public Information in the U.S. Department of Justice under Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, as well as to his role as Press Assistant for Kennedy's Senate office. Included are newspaper clippings, photographs, correspondence, speeches, and campaign materials. Subjects documented include organized crime and the Cuban missile crisis. Also included are records documenting Guthman's continuing interest in work to preserve the memory of Robert F. Kennedy.

Edwin O. Guthman (b. 1919) served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1946 and was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart. He is a graduate of the University of Washington and Harvard University. From 1941 to 1947, he was a reporter for the Seattle Star, and from 1947 to 1961, he reported for the Seattle Times. In 1950, Guthman won the Pulitzer Prize for National reporting.
